Notice that private jobs are lower than at the same time ten years ago and that government jobs are at the same level as 2007. It’s likely that government jobs will continue to fall partially offsetting the gains in the private sector.
The 2010 census showed just under 17 million people between the ages of 60 and 64. That is a significant number of people aging out of the workforce. If half that number actually left the workforce between 2010 and 2015, that would be equivalent to the difference in private employment between the peak and the trough.
