Population distribution of South Africa

The most notable feature is the large areas which are thinly populated.  Cape Town, in the far southwest, seems quite isolated.

  1. Cape Town, as I understand it, is an island of Mediterranean climate surrounded by rather less hospitable environments. The Northern Cape, particularly, is dry desert adjoining Namibia.
