Vietnam population distribution

According to the Population Research Bureau’s 2010 World Population Datasheet, the population of Vietnam is 88.9 million. The map below shows the distribution of population density as of 1999.  US government estimates put the proportion of Vietnam’s residents living in urban areas at only 28%.  It seems likely that the large-scale migration of the populace from rural to urban areas seen in many other countries as part of the modernization process will take place in Vietnam as well.
